At Pennsylvania Dance Institute, we provide our students with performing opportunities throughout the year. Students experience working alongside professional dancers and choreographers in classical and contemporary choreography. Although not mandatory, we strongly encourage participation in these productions as performance is an important component of a young dancer’s training and artistic development.
Since 1991 Dance Del Bello, a not-for-profit performing arts company in residence at PDI, has had the privilege of presenting the ballet “A Christmas Carol” by acclaimed choreographer David Kloss. Each December dedicated students of the school who have reached the necessary technical and artistic maturity are invited to perform in this captivating interpretation of the Dickens classic.
In the spring, all students enrolled in the ballet program have the opportunity to perform in a full-length or excerpted work from Dance Del Bello’s repertoire. Past performances have included Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella, Coppelia, The Sleeping Beauty and a Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Also in the spring, members of the Contemporary Dance Program are invited to perform in the annual “Studio Showcase”. Students perform in original works that demonstrate their versatility in styles including ja hip-hop, jazz, tap and contemporary dance.
In our Fall Performance Series Dance Del Bello will present the ballet “A Christmas Carol” December 2nd, 3rd and 4th at New Freedom Theatre in Philadelphia. Our Spring Performing Series will be in June 2012 at Bucks County Community College’s Gateway Theater.
The Pennsylvania Dance Institute’s “Studio Showcase” will also be presented at Bucks County Community College’s Gateway Theater in June of 2012. Our hip hop, jazz, tap and contemporary dance students will perform original works by their instructors demonstrating all they have accomplished throughout the 2011-2012 year.
